Happy Birthday to my dearest Eug

Friday, February 02, 2007

I was at Sam's Club for some work-related shopping w/ a co-worker.  As we approached the check out line, a man in his mid 50's turned to my co-worker and ask him how he was doing.  My co-worker repsonded politely and turned away.  And then, this old man proceeds to.....

Old man: "So......how do you get a Asian woman like that?  I mean..where did you go to find her?"
Co-worker:

Me: "Off the streets, you @$(#$*@(#$)#@(%*@#)(%^*@(^*$~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

(In reality)

Me:  "Does this guy think I can't speak English!?"
Co-worker: still...

Old man: "Oh..Are you Chinese?"
Me: "NO."    with an attitude that was.
Old man: "Then..where are you from?"
Me:  "KOREA." with more attitude.

Old man turning to my co-worker:
"Oh...I've been to Thailand many times..I just wanted to know where to go to find one like that."

I felt so disgusted and disturbed...It's so sad we have people in this society who can't comprehend the differences between  appropriate and inapporpriate.

It's that time again at work..busy busy..talking to parents, answering questions, and most importantly, reading applications of our future leaders of the world.

It has always been difficult for me to list names of people who have been inspirational in my life.  I still can't name just one person, but as I sat here reading students' application essays, I have decided
(9:15 pm....watching American Idol) that most students I've encountered in my lifetime have been collectively INSPIRING for me!

Laides & Gentlemen, I present to you brief stories of INSPIRING students:

Student A:  At the age of 12, this student was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disorder which caused him to slowly go blind.  He continues to play for his Varsity basketball team, 1/2 way blind, and scored in the last few seconds of a tied game last Spring.  He can't see the glow in the star stickers (his mom placed them to relieve his fear of being in the darkness) anymore, but does not have the heart to tell his mom.  He has shown other what perseverance can do.  He will evenutally be completely blind, but it's his faith in God that'll carry him far.

Student B:   When she was 11 years old, her mother ended a 6 year battle with breast cancer and lost.  She moved to the states from the Phillippines late into Middle school and struggled with the language & cultural barrier.  After her father remarried, her baby brother was diagnosed with brain cancer and survived.  Despite hardships, she has managed to be in her top 2% of her graduating class, competitive test scores, & extensive resume of extracurricular activities.  She said it's through Christ she can do anything....

Student C:  When she was barely 17, she was date raped by someone she was dating.  Instead of letting shame and guilt overcome her life, she continues to entrust her life to Christ and decided to be proactive against sexual crimes that are far too common in our society.  She desires to make a difference and let her past make the BEST of her.  She does this through her growing relationship with God.

Student D:  In the past 10 or so years, this student has been living in several foster homes.  With four other siblings, his mother gave them upto their grandmother (dad left when the children were young) and the State decided the grandma could not provide a healthy living for them.  Bouncing from various homes, he was adopted in 10th grade by a wealthy couple and enrolled in a highly reputable private high school.  During this time, he found out his mother passed away.  After a year, he decided to go back to the group home, but was asked to come back to the private school. (School's president was impressed w/ this student and tuition was covered through the school.)  Another wealthy couple asked to mentor this student until he went off to college and currently he continues to be optimistic although he is no longer with his other siblings.  He looks forward to various opportunities that he may have not gotten if it wasn't for the generosity of others.

Student E:  This student started his own bracelet business at the age of 6.  It all started when his father did not make the PGA cut and the family needed to make ends meet.  From selling his bracelets to handful of small indepedent stores, he was turned down by William Sonoma.  Later that year, he noticed they were selling similar bracelets.  He contacted the President of William Sonoma, sharing his disappointment and they sent him a check.  Now he sells to over 100 stores and currently started another business:  Lacrosse string tying business.  He saw the need and decided to be smart about it.

Aren't they great?

Some pictures for viewing pleasure.

My chica invited me on a trip to the Bahamas....She won a trip for her and a guest!!

Hello.  My name is Joseph Kim,  but everyone calls me "JOEY."  Although, my owner calls me "Joseph" if she is very upset with me.  No one ever gets to hear about me much on Xanga, so here I am.

Here is a little introduction of myself.

Name: Joey Kim (My breeders named me "Mo" b/c of my hair....but my awesome new owner changed it!)
Nicknames:  Babyboy, fuzzbucket, hairy, SnaggleTooth, little man, honey.....etc
Birthday: 8.23.2000
Date of Adoption:  at 11 weeks around October of 2000
Place of Birth:  Mt. Dora, Florida
Siblings:  First born out of 6 other siblings.
Cost: $200
Race(Breed): Shihtzu/Lhasa Apso/Cockapoo <--- Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix, I don't resemeble either.
Color of my hair:  Greyish, blackish, and whitish
Strange physical trait:  underbite with one tooth

Hobbies:  Looking out the window, jumping onto the kitchen counter for food (when no one is home), finding the cushioniest part on the bed, playing with any squeaky toy that fits perfectly in my mouth, cuddling, going for long long walks to anywhere I want, playing with PASSIVE small sized dogs,  trips to PETCO or PETSMART, short car rides, and trying to bite people's hands underneath the blanket.

Dislikes:  People who like to pick me up w/o permission, annoying people who like to get in my face, BIG DOGS and aggressive dogs, beef (b/c it gives me major gas), being locked up in the room w/ my owner during night night time, holding my pee for more than 8 hours, and when my owner doesn't respond when I try to wake her up.  Oh yeah...I forgot, I really hate getting my toenails cut.  My owner used to cut them so short that my toes would bleed!

I look very different depending on what time of the season you see me.  I'm mostly fluffy and hairy in the winter days.........Clean & hairless in the hot summer days....

Here is my ex-favorite Hello Kitty toy..I can't believe my owner dressed me in this hideous sweater!

This past Christmas, I did not receive a single gift!  Can you tell by the expression on my face?

My owner thinks I look helpless w/o any fluffiness......she loves to cuddle, hug, & kiss me, especially after my haircut.

Here I am with my buddy, Charlie.  Charlies likes to play b/c he is 5 years younger than me.  But, I tend to get annoyed of his big paws  always punching me.  We both like to EAT!

Overall, I am extremely intelligent for a dog.  Even my owner thinks so!

Some random questions I've been asked or I have personally pondered about in the recent months:

  1. Why do I have pulsating headaches?
  2. Why don't students listen to me when I talk about the application process? (They end up asking the same questions later on..!)
  3. Why does it feel like we never have enough time?!
  4. Why don't parents let students speak?
  5. Why aren't the sexual predators kept in prisons forever?  Statiscally, don't majority of them commit the same crime once they are out?!
  6. Why isn't more responsibility at work paired with with more PAY?
  7. When was it decided that dimples were attractive? and Who decided that?
  8. Why do some Korean adults say obnoxious things?  for example: "Why isn't your mom remarried?  Tell her it's ok to remarry since your dad passed away."  Ajumma, let me do you a favor and not tell my mom.
  9. Why am I always chewing on my cuticles?!
  10. Is it ever going to get cold?

UPDATE:  A student emails one of us in the office..."Dear Ms. so and so, I have just submitted my Early Decision application and found a humiliating mistake on my essay.  In the concluding sentence, I wrote, NEUTERED instead of NURTURED."

So we find the essay....yes indeed..the sentence read:  "I have been neutered [nurtured]...."

HAHAHHAHAH..

Here is one of my fave pics with Eugene..muahahha..He seriously looks scary.
